Last September, in Rome, I printed a picture and put it as an advertising board on a van that traveled all over the city. The picture is a remix of the one that in the 90’s was printed on LSD blotters (decorated paper sheets, soaked in LSD and other, pre-cut in squares). Many of us have eaten that picture whose author is, probably, unknown.

*Note about the original picture: The man flying carefree on his bicycle is Albert Hofmann, inventor of LSD, portrayed during his most famous ride: when in 1943 he rode all the way home from his lab after taking a fix of his own invention.

Andreina Serena Romano -Prima di tutto definiscici la tua arte. E’ semplice street art o è un’evoluzione dell’arte visiva che tocca diversi campi?
Mimmo Rubino -La seconda che hai detto.
A.S.R. -Gli artisti sono portavoce della società, attraverso le opere cercano di raccontare il mondo che vivono: disagi, problemi, perplessità. Cosa si nasconde dietro i tuoi lavori?
M.R. -Provo a ribaltare la tua domanda. Gli artisti interrogano la società, attraverso le loro opere cercano di visualizzare il mondo che vivono: problemi, disagi, perplessità. Che cosa cercano di svelare i miei lavori?
Più che dire che gli artisti siano “portavoce” della società direi che essi parlano della società, in qualche modo la analizzano, i “portavoce” sono i politici, gli artisti a volte pongono delle domande. Più che “affermativa” l'arte tende a essere “interrogativa”.

Dietro i miei lavori non nascondo niente. Non sono un artista "Nascondista" come il grande Staccolanana. So che questo vale anche per la maggior parte degli artisti, che di solito hanno il problema contrario, quello di rendere visibile, più che di nascondere. Per chi osserva un'opera,pensarla come un rebus può essere fuorviante e generare la frustrazione di non capire, anche perché il rebus prevede la soluzione, l'opera no. Questo è il motivo per cui molti artisti hanno difficoltà nel fare la prosa scritta della propria poetica). Cosa si nasconde dietro "M’illumino d’immenso" oltre all'io soggetto sottinteso?
Io, di mio, cerco di mettere tutti gli elementi a vista come fa Erik Buel quando costruisce le sue moto. Il problema però è che non sempre gli elementi mi sono chiari: se devi scrivere il menù di un ristorante il gioco è abbastanza facile, se però devi raccontare a qualcuno il sapore di quei piatti diventa più difficile.

A.S.R. -“Work will make you free”. Cosa si nasconde dietro questa istallazione?

M.R. -WORK: Il lavoro, WILL MAKE: farà, YOU: tu/voi, FREE: Libero/i
A.S.R. -“L’idea è dozzinale; la provocazione infantile. Quindi ineccepibile. Per un ciarlatano di successo. Non firmata, è solo fascista”. Così un giornale in rete definisce te e la tua istallazione. Cosa ne pensi?
M.R. -Beh, se non altro ha detto che sono di successo.

A.S.R. -Non credo esista realmente un nesso politico dietro questa tua azione. Perché pensi che sia stato così semplice minimizzare il tuo messaggio? E’ stato un po’ un’ancora di salvezza da una giornata già discretamente faticosa per la politica?
M.R. -Direi piuttosto che c'è stata un’informazione superficiale e bisognosa di titoli forti. Provo a spiegarmi meglio: Nonostante i più, anche quelli ai quali il mio lavoro faceva schifo, avevano inteso l'evidente non paternità antisemita del manufatto (Ma quella scritta non era forse in tedesco? Ma l'inglese non è la lingua della new economy, dell'alleanza antinazista?) la notizia di un nazista era molto più forte della notizia di un artista, e nonostante sotto l'arco in molti notavano che la “pista nazista” era assurda, si è preferito dar voce a chi usava le parole più forti. Evidentemente il conflitto fa più audience dell'analisi. Per tutti gli altri, da destra a sinistra, è stata l'occasione per indignarsi pubblicamente e senza riserve verso il male assoluto.
Il giorno 26 aprile la notizia della “scritta nazista” è stata sostituita con quella dell'“artista precario" ed effettivamente in quel momento ero davvero in una posizione precaria. Da lì in poi gli stessi giornalisti che mi chiamavano cercando di recuperare informazioni mi confermavano di non aver troppo creduto alla storia del nazista.
L'indignazione è la necessità di definire pubblicamente il proprio sdegno. Nessuno ha resistito all'occasione di un'indignazione facile facile. Trovo bello che in tanti abbiano avuto voglia di dire la propria e sarei davvero contento se tutti gli indignati contro il mio razzismo facessero dei cordoni per proteggere le case dei Rom che vengono abbattute dalle ruspe. L'indignazione è spesso un tentativo posticcio di prendere posizione su argomenti che non si conoscono, forse c’è una corrispondenza diretta tra la grandezza del titolo del quotidiano e la grandezza dell’indignazione.

A.S.R. -Ti conosco da tanti anni e sicuramente non ti definirei un estremista di destra con idee filo-fasciste. Come mai è uscita solo questa immagine di te?
M.R. -In realtà di me non è uscito molto, si è parlato di “scritta nazista” ed era normale che se ne parlasse in quei toni. Altri, il giorno dopo, hanno parlato di Domenico Artista Precario Lucano (ma cos'è un film di Nanni Moretti?) della video-intervista al "fatto quotidiano" o, peggio, degli altri articoli che, a fronte della mia indisponibilità a parlare ancora, allestivano scenari improbabili basati su informazioni scambiate tra colleghi e riciclate dalla solita video-intervista, arrivando, nel pieno del brainstorming, a una versione bellissima in cui: Domenico (nome di fantasia) Giovane Artista Precario Lucano, assieme alle sua Fidanzata Giovane Storica Dell'Arte Precaria issa la scritta per protestare contro la precarietà, non è nazista, non si pente, chiede scusa. Fortunatamente in questa confusione almeno è uscito fuori la mia distanza dal neonazismo, che era il motivo per cui, pur odiando la sovraesposizione mediatica, avevo deciso subito di farmi intervistare.

A.S.R. -Un detto dice che il lavoro nobilita l’uomo, ma spesso lo rende schiavo della società. Cosa ne pensi?
M.R. -Lavoro come docente formatore. A oggi ho avuto davanti a me circa duecentocinquanta disoccupati, tutti intelligenti e preparati. Conosco bene il business dell'impiego e le dinamiche della ricerca del lavoro, meglio ancora quelle inerenti i “lavori creativi” o “intellettuali”.
Si parla del lavoro sempre in termini di soldi, ma la vera questione non è “lavorare per guadagnare ma “lavorare per essere un lavoratore”, per condurre una giornata da lavoratore, per sentirsi in pace con sé stessi. Chi cerca lavoro, cerca, prima dei soldi, la possibilità di avere accesso a quello status. Questa necessità di essere un lavoratore, questa voglia naturale di creare, di dare il proprio contributo, spinge tanti ragazzi a lavorare praticamente gratis e va a rafforzare i datori di lavoro che ormai non si pongono neanche più il problema di parlare di stipendio. Detto in altre parole, ci sono giornalisti, grafici, artisti di teatro, musicisti, scrittori, critici e curatori d'arte, cine-operatori, scenografi e altri che, pur di fare il proprio lavoro, pur di avere accesso al lavoro, lo fanno gratis, in qualità di tirocinanti, portando avanti aziende che hanno due stipendiati e cinque o sei volontari che vengono cambiati di tanto in tanto.
A.S.R. -La politica è un’arte o l’arte è nella politica?
M.R. -L'arte è nella politica, o almeno lo è la creatività. Pensa per esempio a quanto sono creativi quelli della Lega: sono riusciti a pensare di portare un maiale a pascolare sui terreni che rischiavano di ospitare una futura moschea per renderli impuri e scongiurare la costruzione del centro di culto. Io, da artista, non ci avrei mai pensato, in confronto a Calderoli mi sento un fallito, in termini di creatività. E poi vuoi mettere che fantasia: immaginare i musulmani come una tribù primitiva. Immagina: due nostri preti si incontrano e il primo dice: “Reverendo, non possiamo fondare la nostra chiesa su questo terreno perché un gruppetto di anticlericali ci è venuto a bestemmiare sopra”. E il secondo risponde: “Reverendo, siamo religiosi, mica idioti”.

A.S.R. -Entrare nella testa degli altri artisti e capire dietro le provocazioni cosa c’è è spesso molto difficile per “noi comuni mortali”. Molto spesso diventa arte qualsiasi cosa che faccia scalpore. Non pensi che questo minimizzi le capacità e le idee di molti giovani artisti?

M.R. -Non è vero, semmai è vero il contrario, prendiamo ad esempio la mia opera Work Will Make You Free: essa è stata realizzata come "opera d'arte" e non come "oggetto che crea scalpore" ma ha fatto scalpore ed è stata criticata non come opera d'arte. Gli omicidi fanno scalpore, generano fascino, producono documenti che possono anche finire nei musei (criminali) ed essere collezionati, ma non ne ho mai sentito parlare pubblicamente come arte.
Un riferimento classico, quando si parla di “opera che crea scalplore”, è la merda d'artista di Manzoni, (ora pure la merda è arte?). Ecco, credo che se Manzoni fosse partito con l'obiettivo di far scalpore non sarebbe arrivato a costruire un'opera come quella, che invece conserva e rappresenta la ricerca di quel grande pensatore che è stato. Difficilmente trovi un'opera d'arte in un museo solo perché essa ha fatto scalpore, semmai è il contrario, alcune volte ci si scandalizza che qualche opera sia in un museo. Quando poi l’opera è per strada, apriti cielo!
Il luogo comune vuole che sia conveniente per un artista fare scalpore, ma non è la verità, il mondo dell'arte differisce ancora un minimo da una trasmissione di Maria De Filippi. Credo che sia sconveniente fare “scalpore” e sinceramente non credo che gli artisti cerchino lo “scalpore” di proposito.

A.S.R. -Sei conosciuto soprattutto per la tua serie di Anamorfosi, di che si tratta?
M.R. -Sono dei dipinti che guardati da un determinato punto generano una percezione di tridimensionalità, è una tecnica antica che sta vivendo una nuova giovinezza negli ultimi anni. Disegno delle forme geometriche elementari in grandi spazi, poi scatto una foto ad alta risoluzione e la stampo in grande formato. Di solito lavoro in zone periferiche, parcheggi, fabbriche abbandonate. Il bianco della pittura contrasta con lo sporco e il nero dei residui industriali e ne appiattisce la profondità dello spazio.
A.S.R. -Ho notato che, nelle tue Anamorfosi a volte usi specchiare le immagini.

M.R. -Si, sono quelle che nel titolo contengono le parole "the mirror". In un manuale di design proprio l'altro giorno leggevo che la simmetria è sinonimo di monotonia. Mi piace la sacralità delle immagini speculari. Lo specchio, nella sua semplicità, rappresenta l'impenetrabilità dell'immagine, fin da bambini, poggiando le mani sullo specchio, abbiamo imparato che non tutto quello che si vede può essere toccato. lo specchio è una vecchia conoscenza che non smette mai di incuriosirci.
In un'opera ho associato l'effetto specchio (mirror) al disegno di una croce (cross) e ne
è venuta fuori Cross the Mirror. Quest'opera ha momentaneamente chiuso il ciclo delle Anamorfosi che spero di riaprire prima o poi. Guardandola penso che essa racconti come faccio alcune cose, nel titolo, nell'immagine. Sul set ho disegnato solo metà della croce affidando allo specchio il compito di restituirla intera, questo mi ha fatto guadagnare in simmetria e risparmiare risorse. Al centro della croce ho posizionato una figura (il modello si chiama Angelo) che indossa dei guantoni da boxe: non puoi dire se è un vincente o un perdente, se è forte o debole, che intenzioni ha, è impenetrabile come lo spazio che abita, in conflitto tra la profondità della prospettiva e la piattezza del bianco. Sta in croce, ma ha i piedi ben poggiati per terra, é letteralmente crossover.
A.S.R. -In RHOME, si riconosce una casa bianca dipinta ed un ragazzino con una felpa con su scritto Roma. Di che si tratta?

M.R.  -Quella l'ho scattata nel campo Rom di via Candoni, a Roma. Non è stato un lavoro semplice: dovendo dipingere sul campo da calcio ho dovuto fare una lunga trattativa con i bambini che giustamente volevano il campo libero per giocare a pallone, per di più era una bella domenica di gennaio e dunque non erano a scuola ma tutti a giocare, una marea di ragazzini caotici. Quando hanno visto la pittura per fortuna hanno iniziato a interessarsi al lavoro e hanno preteso di partecipare alla pittura, è stato un miracolo che a fine lavoro il bianco era solo nelle zone che avevo segnato. Quando ero pronto a scattare è sbucato un ragazzino piccolissimo che fino a quel momento non si era ancora visto, capello biondo tinto, fare da Eminem, felpa col cappuccio con sopra scritto ROMA. "Fermo là, ti prego!" e ho scattato.
A.S.R. -Possiamo parlare di convivenza tra l’arte che siamo abituati a vedere nelle gallerie e l’arte di strada? E’ possibile che l’una sia l’evoluzione dell’altra o il contrario?
M.R.  -Certo, è un po' di anni che praticamente non si parla d'altro, c'è convivenza,è una vecchia storia: artisti famosi pescano idee e tendenze nuove nell'underground, graffitari e street artist più o meno talentuosi espongono dentro gallerie rispettabili. è normale e lo era anche trent'anni fa.
Fare opere per strada non è una novità.
A.S.R. -Da Potenza a Roma. Un viaggio lungo anni con una sola passione, quella dell’arte. Cosa ti manca e cosa ti resta ancora da fare?
M.R.  -Detta così sembra una polemica sulle condizioni della Salerno-Reggio Calabria… Scusa, torno serio, e a domanda romantica rispondo romanticamente:
Mi manca l'emozione che provai quando vidi per la prima volta passare un treno con sopra un mio graffito: ero il re del mondo, se domani mi chiamassero per dirmi che devo portare un pezzo in Biennale non proverei quello che provai allora.
Mi mancano gli anni in cui ero più piccolo e facevo i miei lavori senza pensare a tutte queste chiacchiere che facciamo oggi, avevo un gruppo di amici, erano il mio pubblico, erano i miei kids, facevo i miei graffiti per loro, belli e colorati, manco li fotografavo tanto ero sicuro che esistevano. Ecco, un po' mi manca quella freschezza :-(
Ma ho un sacco di cose da fare, sono poco capace di organizzare lavori che mi impegnino per più di un mese, invece avrei bisogno di fare proprio quello, qualche progetto più lungo, meno sintetico e più narrativo. Vorrei essere capace di dedicarmi a una cosa per un anno intero senza cambiare mille volte idea. Invidio quelli che cominciano a fare un film sapendo che lo finiranno fra due anni. Vorrei imparare a scrivere cose lunghe, strutturare un racconto, non chiacchiere confuse e autoreferenziali come queste, ma parole che scompaiono mentre le leggi creando storie, immagini, città, palazzi, case, letti disfatti, tavoli di bar.

C'è un cancello che si apre ogni tanto per far entrare le auto, si intravede una grande gabbia, qualcuno del paese la chiama la voliera. Nella gabbia, sul cemento, sono montate delle tende blu in cui vivono i detenuti. Non hanno le scarpe, così, come nel film "Big Fish", non possono scappare.

What started out as "graffiti" and was condemned by many as vandalism has come of age and achieved a high measure of respectability.But a rebellious streak still runs through most of its practitioners, who revel in turning the streets we live and work in into one huge space for art appreciation - with or without the blessing of officialdom. IdN: Would you tell us more about your Mirror project, what is your initial idea behind it and is there any special message you would like the audiences gain from such project?
Rub Kandy: Mirror is one of the easiest and most charming magic trick we find in life. Since childhood, we have learned that looking in a mirror what you see not always you can touch. The mirror represents the magic of images and its impenetrability. Art and mirror have always confronted each other. I also mirrored images to make clear that they were elaborated, they were build on a trick and that's why I wrote it in the title, too: "the mirror"

IdN: In your opinion how did street art in general can makes social change?

Rub Kandy: I like to think that art is culture and that culture is the base for social changes. What is interesting about street art is that it uses the practices typical of political activism (writings on the walls, posters, space squatting, networking) and advertising (marketing, brand identity, creative copy, shocking images, irony, repetitiveness). Obey, for example, has build a visual imaginative world superimposing the style of political propaganda to the one of advertising campaigns and summed it all up in a brand that has the shape of Obama's face.

From street art you learn that with few means you can do great stuff, what’s important is to have the guts and the brain. That’s the social contribution that street art can give, not communicating ideologies but showing new ways.

Certainly street art changed some practices of the traditional art world and allowed many artists to be appreciated without leaning on curators and galleries.

IdN: When people look at your work and say that it borders on the line of graffiti and art, how do you see it?

Rub Kandy: I'm glad if people find difficult to categorize my pieces, I find it difficult too. They are graffiti because they are often as abusive as graffiti and I often write alphabetical letters like writers do. But they are photography too because they are often made up to be photographed, in some of them I try and put living characters and then some get digital adjustments like for example the technique of mirroring.

I try to make “crossover” art: one piece is called “Cross the mirror”. I just drew half the cross, then I used the mirror(ing) to get the whole shape completed. In the centre of the cross there is one Jesus with boXing gloves, the name of the model was Angelo and the mirroring of his body gives him a holy aura. You can't tell if he's a winner or a loser, if he is strong or weak , he is as impenetrable as the space he lives, an impenetrable space in which depth is in conflict with the flatness of the cross. That's how I try to make crossover art.

IdN: What are your emotional associations with the environments that you depict?

Rub Kandy: One of the Kids in the movie by Larry Clark (1995) has got one only desire: to deflower young virgins – to enter where nobody has entered before. On the contrary the places where I like to enter has got plenty of experience, but I like the idea of possession, to walk there alone, I think everybody knows what I'm talking about: the taste of something of your own, the curiosity to know it, the fear to break through some doors and meet the unexpected, finding clues of what it was before and the romantic charm of ruins, like when English painters came to Rome to depict the ancient ruins of the Roman Empire, that's how I like to walk through the ruins of the Industrial Era. On the technical and practical point of view it's important for me to work in wide open space where I can experiment freely. I don't have no studio: every place is my studio. Moreover industrial structures are full of scenographic elements: wings, columns, straight lines that I use to build up my work space. Every piece of mine requires a day of work: morning to evening. When I enter a place I don't have no specific idea of what I'll do, I waste a lot of time looking for the right angle. Then I choose the easiest idea and then I start to work quickly. Before evening I shoot. I often make mistake and I throw it all away.

IdN: Do you feel street work is more authentic than gallery work? How do you elaborate the different affection these two venues brought to the viewers?

Rub Kandy: If you trust the wrong gallery you'll end creating bad pieces, galleries often aim to just get an immediate revenue and they lead the artist to do commercial works to satisfy their clients. It's fair to live on art but it is better when galleries work well, making themselves and the artist rich and enriching our culture. But the wrong art dealer and the wrong buyers could lead the artist to abandon experimentation.

Same old story since the '80s: great writers and street artists that were powerful on the street started doing paintings on canvas to satisfy little mean art dealers and buyers. Maybe they wanted to become like Basquiat, to go to bed with Madonna, but Basquiat is Basquiat, an angel with boxing gloves, chosen by God, and drawing on a train is not like drawing the same thing on canvas.A street artist that has painted 200 trains shouldn’t sell himself out at a low price to a gallery.

Don't misunderstand me, please, it's not ethical fundamentalism, it's just a matter of economics. A street artist is worth for what he does on the street, that's where he makes his experimentation and I'm happy if he's powerful even when he happens to work for a gallery.

Take for example, Blu, an Italian artist I'm very proud of. If he had wasted his time in the last ten years painting on canvas for a gallery he would be now a good painter like all the others. Instead he knew well that his strength was to work on the street, go big, work on an architectonical dimension. When he and art galleries confronted each other he never gave up his own deep nature and this was convenient for him up to every point of view. Have you heard about the story of his murales with coffin and dollars in the USA? You can learn a lot from that guy...

Anyway, the question art/street art will always be a great deal, but maybe it’s just a matter of stopping talking about it and start thinking that every artist is different from the other.

IdN: Graffiti was once label as vandalism, now more and more people appreciate them as art, what would be your intake towards such evolution and how do you foresee graffiti / street art’s future?

Rub Kandy: A many others, I started doing graffiti and what I’ve seen in the world of vandals is fantastic. I admire and envy their energy: they’re young, beautiful, crazy, they attack trains, I regret their energy, that I’ve lost. While art schools got rotten Bronx style spread among kids, while in schools they taught about De Chirico in the streets they talk about rhythm and lettering. Many powerful artists, graphics, designers come from that underground world, among vandals they’ve learned what teachers didn’t teach them.

Some people keep on distinguishing betweenVandals and Artists, they say you should arrest the former and buy works from the latter. That’s why some idiots during vernissages buy the same pieces that they want to be erased from the walls of their house. Somebody told them the first is art, not vandalism and they are fine. That’s the same old story.

About evolution… There’s another important issue: the development of Web. Street art, after all, is not such news. The news is, instead, what we’ve seen in the last ten years: the development of Web.

Thanks to social networks, Internet sites and journalism culture spreads all over. There were fanzines before, but Internet is a hundred times stronger and this is influencing the art works. A weird mutation is happening in street art and in Public Art in general. Works are often projected to be photographed and posted on the Web, you can see a new form of street art in which photography or video are fundamental. Nowadays often the street art piece of work lives just in the pictures and Web pages that show it.

I don’t know if you can still call it street art but that’s what is happening to it. The circle of leaves that Spy created in the centre of a concrete pitch is doomed to be deleted by the wind and will live just in the picture. Pictures and Web take away charm from some pieces of work, but they make it possible to create other kinds of works, more ephemeral and conceptual ones or works like my anamorphosis that you have to look only from some angles. In fact we see a heavy return to optical illusion. My series of anamorphosis, for example, couldn’t exist without photography, it is most of all photography, you can prove intervention that would disappear in few days and work where nobody ever enter. Thanks to the Web I can show them to you in Honk Kong and don’t give a damn about old curators living round the corner of my house. The world changes, the artist has to be a mutant.

"October 22nd 2009: Stefano Cucchi dies. 7 days earlier he had been arrested for drug possession.

Up to the time of arrest Stefano is in good health conditions, but at the trial his face shows clear signs of violence. Later he is moved from jail to the prison hospital.

In all likelihood his death is the consequence of the acts of violence he suffered during the arrest, these acts were committed by the people who should have taken care of and healed him: Government, police, doctors.

Stefano's family decide to publish pictures of the corpse and those photos end on the cover of newspapers and magazines. They prove what happened. On October 21st, a year after Stefano's death, I interviewed his sister, Ilaria, asking her to talk about those photos."

"Il 22 ottobre 2009 muore Stefano Cucchi. È stato arrestato per possesso di droga 7 giorni prima.

Quando viene fermato Stefano è in buone condizioni di salute, ma durante il processo sul suo volto ci sono evidenti segni di violenza. In seguito viene trasferito dal carcere all'ospedale carcerario.

Con molta probabilità la morte è l'esito delle violenze subite durante l'arresto, violenze di cui è responsabile chi, invece, avrebbe dovuto custodirlo e curarlo: lo stato, le forze dell'ordine e i medici.

La famiglia di Stefano decide di pubblicare le foto del cadavere, che finiscono sulle prime pagine dei quotidiani italiani. Esse testimoniano con evidenza quanto accaduto. Il 21 ottobre 2010, a un anno dalla morte di Stefano Cucchi, ho intervistato la sorella, Ilaria Cucchi chiedendole di parlarmi di quelle foto."

Guarda laggiù! quello chi è? Non lo sento che fa, fammi guardare, l'ho già visto però dove non so, c'era tanta gente.
Io sono qui, tutto da solo, un po' triste perché non so come fare a socializzare in modo che ci sia tanta gente.
Lui è rosso giallo verde blu, di più di tutto quello che c'è.
Il mondo a volte non è colorato, mi sembra uno dei film di cinquant'anni fa' dove tutto era bianco, nero e grigio e tutto ciò che c'è di grigio si colorerà.
Lui mi ha chiamato e io sono andato e sono stato toccato dalla sua mano, poi mi sono guardato e mi son visto tutto colorato.
Poi son volato, tutto ho osservato, ho capito che anche io stavo colorando tutto ciò che toccavo e diventava tutto colorato.
Lui è rosso giallo verde blu, di più di tutto quello che c'è.
Il mondo a volte non è colorato, mi sembra uno dei film di cinquant'anni fa' dove tutto era bianco, nero e grigio e tutto ciò che c'è di grigio si colorerà.
Perché tutto quello che tocca di colpo si trasforma in una rarità che sorridere mi fa e tutto ciò che c'è di grigio si colorerà!

Anamorphosis Series Words about...
An illusion is described as a false mental image or conception which may be a misinterpretation of a real appearance or may be something imagined. Hence, It may be pleasing, harmless, or even useful. A hallucination however is a completely groundless, false conception, belief, or opinion, caused by a disordered imagination; it is particularly frequent today in the pathological sense, according to which it denotes hearing or seeing something that does not exist. So it is sometimes difficult to define whether art is creating an illusion or a hallucination in your mind when it is viewed. This type of art can lead to many questions and weird conclusions. You may think you see some bathroom panels and a load of bathroomfittings but is that what you are actually seeing at all? Are they really in the art or is something else underlying? Reality is turned upside down.
Whatever it is that artists conjure up in our minds, these particular artists have done it extremely well. They have taken to the streets and displayed huge forms of hallucinatory art for the world to judge. Here are what I consider to be the best….
Working in alleys and abandoned parts of Rome, Italy, the artist who’s also known as Flickrub holds symmetry in high esteem as he executes his deceptive street art in thick white paint. "Marco Dominici was seven when he disappeared in Rome on April 26th 1970 on a Sunday afternoon. His remains were found seven years later in a tunnel in Centocelle district not far from his house.The remains were found by two guys who got into Forte Prenestino’s tunnels. There, just in the former basement of John Bosco’s Center they saw a pair of little shoes, clothes and a bunch of bones. The little shoes were the ones Marco Dominici was wearing on the day he disappeared. That day he went to the oratory of Salesiani Center to see a movie. When his mother went to pick him up the priests told her he had already left alone. But the kid never returned home. The research of the lost boy brought no result. The police hypothesized it was murder. The first suspect was suggested by one of the Salesian priests: a youngster with mental disease that used to hang by the oratory. But on him no clues were found and he was found not guilty for lack of evidence. During the trial in some of the institute rooms pornographic magazines were found and one of the friars was banned from the institute. Roberto Dominici, Marco’s father, has been wondering for 40 years if that could be related to his son’s death and would like to be sure the bones found are his kid’s. Le scarpette erano quelle che indossava Marco Dominici il giorno della sua scomparsa. Il giorno della scomparsa il bambino era andato al Centro del salesiani per vedere un film al cinema dell'oratorio. Quando la madre andò a prenderlo, i preti le dissero che era andato via da solo. Ma bambino non tornò a casa. Le ricerche non portano a nulla. Subito venne valutata l'ipotesi di omicidio. Il primo indiziato venne segnalato da uno dei preti del "Don Bosco": si trattava di un giovane con disturbi psichici che frequentava spesso l'istituto. Tutti sapevano che era appena uscito dal manicomio e, dato che alcuni bambini avevano detto di aver visto Marco in compagnia di un giovane, venne ipotizzato che fosse l'assassino. Ma su di lui non emersero elementi rilevanti e al processo venne assolto per insufficienza di prove. Nel corso delle indagini, nelle stanze di alcuni frati dell'istituto venne trovato del materiale pornografico e uno dei frati venne allontanato. Roberto Dominici, il padre di Marco, da 40 anni si chiede se questo abbia a che fare con la morte del figlio e vorrebbe avere la certezza che quelle ossa siano proprio quelle del suo bambino. Quanto più l'economia contemporanea costringe gli uomini a vivere separati e quindi in debito di realtà, tanto più questa abnorme opera d'arte planetaria, mimetica come nessuna ha potuto essere prima, restituisce ai suoi consumatori il sapore di una realtà più vera del vero, da cui mani esperte hanno abolito le sorprese incoerenti,
stonate. Così succede nei mondi romanzeschi. Solo che qui il demiurgo non è il singolo romanziere, ma è l'anonimo meccanismo produttivo.

Noi italiani godiamo di un privilegio di cui stentiamo a renderci conto: uno dei nostri leader è al centro del più grande esperimento della storia mondiale; la smetta la sinistra di protestare scioccamente, gridando al peronismo e al regime - cerchi invece di aiutarlo, il nostro infantile Mutante, maestro di surrealismo di massa, il nostro Guitto Presidente, a non commettere gli errori a cui lo induce la sua debolezza di carattere.

L'artista italiano (ma svizzero d'adozione) Gianni Motti ha ottenuto tramite amicizie il grasso che Silvio Berlusconi si era fatto asportare durante l'ultima liposuzione ai fianchi, e con questo grasso ha creato una saponetta bianca, asettica, a forma di parallelepipedo, che ha donato all'Art Forum di Basilea. Berlusconi è il primo capo di Stato che abbia da vivo una parte del suo corpo esposta in un museo.

Dove lo troviamo un altro leader che sia insieme il Capo di tutte le televisioni, e che sia disposto a immolarsi nella prova di fusione tra mediatizzazione del corpo stesso e un superstite diritto dei telespettatori a rimanere uniti in un consorzio civile?

"Sei anni fa in pochi avrebbero scommesso sul successo di un festival del fumetto completamente autorganizzato, senza sponsor o finanziamenti, senza selezione degli artisti. Un festival che si dipana lungo umidi, ma ameni sotterranei ottocenteschi tra cani, concerti e performance disseminati ovunque e lunghe camminate da fare per poter osservare tutto.
Le oltre 10mila persone che lo attraversano a ogni edizione e le centinaia di artisti che provengono da ogni parte del mondo per partecipare a un vero e proprio evento dell’arte underground europea, ci dicono che Crack! Fumetti dirompenti (http://crack.forteprenestino.net) non deve dimostrare più nulla, nemmeno agli scettici. Resta solo da godere la qualità del caotico spettacolo realizzato dagli artisti presenti, autori famosi e ragazzi alle prime armi.
Trovare una definizione per questo festival delle arti underground è forse impossibile. Crack! va vissuto, ripetono gli organizzatori, non può essere raccontato. E hanno ragione. Nei sotterranei del centro sociale Forte Prenestino convergono ogni anno i nuovi linguaggi del fumetto, del writing, della poster art, della stampa e della serigrafia indipendente, impegnati nella narrazione di un presente in continua mutazione..."
